Kelly Okoye

Radical Arts Academy of Denver (RAAD)


Kelly has been an educator in Denver for 16 years, in both the private and public school systems. She currently teaches 2nd grade Literacy at McGlone Academy, in the Montbello neighborhood where she was raised. She is also a Teacher Leader, serving as New Teacher Ambassador and Early Literacy Specialist for the ECE-2 building. Kelly received her B.A. in Elementary Education and a K-12 Endorsement for teaching Culturally and Linguistically Diverse learners from the University of Northern Colorado Center for Urban Learning.

RAAD is co-founded with other Moonshot Fellows.

Success to date: The RAAD team facilitated 3 different pilots featuring arts-integrated learning experiences for 30 students, ages 5-16. Using a research-based SEL framework of assessment, RAAD showed statistically significant gains in Social Awareness from a lesson in collaborative songwriting.

2019-2020 plans: RAAD is planning  to pilot in the Summer and Fall of 2019, as well as the Summer of 2020.
