Yuzo Nieto

Short bio: Yuzo Nieto has served the far northeast as both a music teacher and a general elementary teacher for 8+ years.  Recently, he was admitted to the University of Northern Colorado as a doctoral student of music education with a focus in educational leadership and policy studies.  In addition to his research and coursework at UNC, Yuzo designs and teaches curriculum for music education majors focusing on culturally responsive music pedagogy. Yuzo has two children, a 6-year-old daughter named Zora and a 4-year-old son named Thelonious.  He is also a band leader and songwriter for the original 10-piece afrobeat / chicano hip-hop ensemble called Pink Hawks.  

RAAD is co-founded with other Moonshot Fellows.

Target Geography:  GVR and Montbello

Success to date: Using a research-based  SEL framework of assessment, RAAD showed statistically significant gains in Social Awareness from a lesson in collaborative  songwriting.

RAAD will continue to pilot in summer 2019 through summer 2020
