How our community informs and guides Moonshot's work

Someone recently asked Moonshot CEO Kat Ling how our beneficiaries are involved in our work and processes. We are proud to share how Moonshot Fellows and students share their insights and visions:

MOONSHOT FELLOWS

Moonshot alumni are involved in every aspect of our organization. Past Fellows serve on the selection committee for every program we run (Fellowship and Residencies) and work as coaches, facilitators, panelists, and speakers during the Fellowship. Each year, we have over 50 alumni supporting the Fellowship. Today, alumni facilitate two of our most important sessions of the Fellowship: Student Design Day and MoonTrials.

Fellows also continue to shape Moonshot as an organization. Our alumni had two seats, alongside our board, on the CEO selection committee in 2021, and supported our five year strategic planning process through focus groups, empathy interviews, and workshops. Our alumni provide direction to our programming; the Residency was created out of learnings and feedback from our alumni on the additional support they needed in order to launch their schools and programs.

STUDENTS

While Fellows and alumni are our direct touchpoint, we also see students as beneficiaries. High school students serve on our interview & selection committee for the Moonshot Fellowship, and work as coaches and advisors in MoonTrials and Student Design Day. During the Fellowship, Fellows are trained on the Liberatory Design Framework and hold empathy interviews and run pilots that are co-created with students and families.

LOOKING FORWARD

As Moonshot explores ideas for different programs and expansions, we continue to invite our community stakeholders to weigh in. We’ve made a commitment to listening and partnering, and we’re grateful for the trust of our educators and students.
